Dr. Edward Odundo
Board Chairman
Dr. Edward Odundo is the Director, School of Pension and Retirement Studies (SPRS), Chairman of the Public Service Superannuation Scheme, Kenya (PSSS), a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, School of Business, Board Member of Equity Group Holding Plc and a Consultant in Pensions, Tax, Corporate Governance and Financial Services. He is the former Chief Executive Officer of Retirement Benefits Authority (Kenya), honored by former President, His Excellency, Hon. Mwai Kibaki, with The Moran of the Order of The Burning Spear (MBS), Former Director of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and Policy Holders Compensation Fund (PHCF).
He is currently a Board member of the Insurance Training and Educational Trust (ITET), Trustee of Association for The Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK), Advisory board member of Africa Investor and the former President of the International Organization of Pensions Supervisors (IOPS). He has also published a book “The Doctrine of Strategic Planning.
Dr. Odundo has held various high-level responsibilities such as the Commissioner of Value Added Tax, Kenya Revenue Authority.
Dr. Maxwel Okoth
Prior to being the CEO of Ruai Family Hospital, he served in various roles in the public health sector, his last role being the Deputy Director of Health Services and Medical Superintendent of Mutuini Hospital in Nairo bi County where he was mandated to spearhead the upgrade of Mutuini Dispensary (a CDF-Built} operating as to a level four hospital. He oversaw the opening of the maternity wing, imaging department and the inpatient wards that saw it start operating as a full-fledged 24-hour hospital.
He is a graduate of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi, Certified Public Accounts from Strathmore College of Accountancy, Managing Healthcare Business from Strathmore University, Stanford Seed Transformation Program from Stanford Graduate School of Business and Senior Executive Program from Harvard Business School.
Maria Kagai Ligaga Shipiri
Director
Maria Kagai Ligaga Shipiri is a global Human Resources with over to 20 years of experience across telecommunications, banking, pharmaceuticals, FMCGs and the development sectors.
She has held senior roles in global organizations, currently as Consultant Organization Design & Change at the Mastercard Foundation. Other recent assignments include the Chief People & Culture Officer at Living Goods and Head of Organizational Effectiveness for the African Development Bank in Cote d’Ivoire. Her experience in telecommunications includes Director, HR for Vodafone’s entity in Kenya (Safaricom) and Head of HR for Vodafone Group’s Enterprise function in the UK.
She serves as Non-Executive Director on the boards of UAP/Old Mutual, Octagon Financial Services and Living Goods. Married to Alex Shipiri, they are parents to Wendy Emali.
Prof. Walter Jaoko
Director
Walter Jaoko is a medical doctor, a professor of medical microbiology and tropical medicine, and the Director of KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research, University of Nairobi. He is also an Extraordinary Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Stellenbosch University, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham. He trained at the University of Nairobi, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and Stellenbosch University. He has many years of experience at managerial positions and is a member of the Board of Directors in several local and international not-for-profit organizations.
Duncan Gateru
Director
Duncan Gateru holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Moi University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Statistics from Maseno University is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA K), and a trained Domestic Taxes expert with over ten years of experience in taxation.
He’s brought his experience to the hospital as Director Internal Audit and Tax and has been instrumental in making strategic decisions of the hospital in line with its long-term goals.
He brings to the team expertise in Business Management, Finance, Internal Audit, Risk Management, and leadership.
Daniel Cremer
Board Observer
Daniel is the Regional Head of Origination for East Africa at AfricInvest Private Credit, the debt vehicle of the AfricInvest Group and acts as observer on various boards across different countries. He has a vast experience in the Private Credit and Investment Banking industry. Prior to joining AfricInvest Private Credit, he has worked in the Leveraged Finance division of the Dutch banking group ING and previously worked for the German banking group Commerzbank. He holds a Diploma in Economics and a Bachelor in Mathematics from the Johannes Gutenberg – University Mainz, Germany. He brings to the Board a wealth of experience in financial planning and management, operations optimizations and strategy implementation all of which are key aspects in the long-term growth of RFH.
